The week before last was shortened for the Easter holiday and the Baltic Exchange was also not open on Monday this week. The BDI bottomed from its recent pull back on Wednesday, April 8. The performance figures below are from the close on the 9th until this last Friday’s closing numbers.

Baltic Panamax Index (BPI): +35.9%
Baltic Supramax Index (BSI): +7.6%
Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI) +0.3%
Baltic Dirty Tanker (BDTI): -1.1%
Baltic Clean Tanker (BCTI): -0.6%
The numbers above under report the magnitude of the bounce in the big boys, Capesize and Panamax, both of which hit their recent bottom a few days ahead of the BDI. They are up 12.6% and 40.5%, respectively, from each indices recent lows.
The truly depressing tanker numbers are showing signs of a bottom with a leveling then the first uptick since the first week of March on Friday.
