Baltic Indices for last week

Here is how the list if different Baltic Indices fared for the week ending 11 June.

  • Baltic Dry Index (BDI): -5.9%
  • Baltic Capesize Index (BCI): -1.4%
  • Baltic Panamax Index (BPI): -15.3%
  • Baltic Supramax Index (BSI): -6.0%
  • Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI) -5.2%

  • Baltic Dirty Tanker (BDTI): +18.5%
  • Baltic Clean Tanker (BCTI): -2.5%

The BDI, BCI and BPI reversed ground on Thursday and Friday with nice advances. The Supramax and Handysize indices continued to slide through the week. I am starting to see press releases of shipping companies picking up vessels at attractive prices. They seem to believe that they can profitably put them to work.

Nice to see a positive pop in the dirty tanker index. Need a few more weeks like that to start feeling positive about the spot tanker boys like NAT, FRO and TNK.
