Here is a recap on how the various Baltic Indices fared for the week ending 19 June 2009.
Baltic Dry Index (BDI): +13.6%
Baltic Capesize Index (BCI): +19.1%
Baltic Panamax Index (BPI): +13.5%
Baltic Supramax Index (BSI): +1.6%
Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI): -5.7%
Baltic Dirty Tanker (BDTI): +19.6%
Baltic Clean Tanker (BCTI): -2.4%
The bulk freight indices generally reversed their negative numbers from the previous week with nice gains. From what I am reading, the Capesize vessels are now earning in excess of $70k per day on the spot market. Pretty nice if your overhead is $15k per day or less. Drybulk stocks generally had a pretty negative week, so start looking for some value.
The Dirty Tanker Index has tacked on close to 20% for two weeks in a row now and things are looking up for the oil shippers.
I am going to start listing on this weekly post how the dry bulk and tanker sectors did for the previous week in my stock watch lists. It will be interesting to compare to how the index numbers fared. To start out I am listing how the stocks have done year-to-date. In parenthesis is the number of stocks I am tracking and results are equal dollar weighted.
