Baltic Indices for Last Week

Here is how the Baltic Indices fared last week and a couple of the new shipping stock indices:

  • Baltic Dry Index (BDI): +18.7%
  • Baltic Capesize Index (BCI): +23.0%
  • Baltic Panamax Index (BPI): +12.6%
  • Baltic Supramax Index (BSI): +12.9%
  • Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI): +6.2%

  • Baltic Dirty Tanker (BDTI): -7.5%
  • Baltic Clean Tanker (BCTI): -3.3%

Here are the results of the corresponding stock indices, courtesy of Capital Link Shipping:

  • CL Dry Bulk Index: +16.4%
  • CL Tanker Index: +5.0%

After several weeks of steep declines, the Baltic Dry Indices rebounded strongly last week. Dry bulk stocks followed right along. Spot tanker rates continue to erode and I think some of the tanker stocks will not have positive earnings reports. Earnings for the shipping companies start coming out later this week, so we will have some real news to write about.
